I created this unique headphone using Grado SR125 drivers and embedding them in an actual antique "Airline Special" headphone from the 1920s. I have a lot of Grado drivers that I've collected and am continuously experimenting with them in different configurations to create some unique designs. Grado headphones are popular to modify because they are extremely simple designs.
For the sound quality, because the chassis of the "Airline Special" has openings on the back, it preserves the open quality of the Grado drivers. I constructed earpads to match the design of the headphones (the originals of course had bakelite cups which are incredibly uncomfortable to wear). I also added a new high quality stereo cable.
I put dozens of hours into the "Airline Special" headphone design to develop the best to preserve the Grado sound, but also capture the basics of an antique headphone, and give it a steampunk feel.
No case, box, or stand included.
